NW Plus Credit Union has announced its grand opening will be Thurs, Feb. 23, noon to 4 p.m., with a ribbon cutting by Mayor Dianne White at 1 p.m. at its new location at 9225 271st St. NW.

All women are invited to Camano chapel every second and fourth Thursday of the month for a discussion of God’s view on issues such as failure, contentment and forgiveness. This unique gathering, 9:15- 11:15 a.m., includes a panel of women who will share their opinions and life experiences.

Collage Art with Dotti Burton. Join a fun two day workshop! You will be guided through compositions which will enable you to create contemporary collage artwork. Skagit Valley Writers League will host Janet Oakley, the Timeline Lady and author of “Tree Soldier” Thurs, Feb. 23, 6:30 -8:30 p.m. at the Mount Vernon Community Center, 1401 Cleveland St. She will speak on the creative process. The Stanwood City Council  regular meeting at 7:00 p.m. at the Stanwood-Camano School District Administration Building, located at 26920 Pioneer Hwy, Stanwood.

Poetry Night is every second and fourth Thursday each month, 7-9 p.m. at Fogdog Art Gallery, at 233 N. Olympic Ave. in downtown Arlington.  On Feb 23, winners of the Eagle Festival poetry competition will share their work, and guest speakers will be the first and second place winners for both adult and youth. AARP Driver Safety Program is for older drivers, at Camano Center Feb. 24, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., 606 Arrowhead Road, 387-0222 to register. Linda Rubadue, instructor. Upon completion of the 8-hour course, drivers 55 years and older qualify for a state mandated discount on auto insurance.

Winter Storytimes at the Camano Island Library Pilot Project are every Friday, Jan. 13-March 2. Baby Storytime, 9:30 a.m. Babies and their favorite adult learn to love reading together with stories, songs, fingerplays and rhymes. Careprovider required. The Old Time Fiddlers meets on Fridays Jan. 13 and 27, and Feb. 10 and 24, at the Sisco Heights Community Club, 13527 99th Ave NE, Arlington. Celtic jam is at 5 p.m., workshop at 6, circle jam at 7. Coffee, tea, juice, and snacks throughout the evening. Bring some snacks to share if you wish. Free family entertainment; listeners and acoustic musicians of all ages (and their instruments) are welcome.

Womens’ Health Clinic at Safe Harbor Free Clinic, a Stanwood walk-in clinic that provides professional healthcare and referral services to the under-insured, will operate a Women’s Health Clinic on the fourth Friday of every month starting in January and provide up to 5 patients per night with comprehensive gynecological services. Among the other health care services to be provided are free pap smears and free testing for sexually transmitted diseases. Medical services that will not be available include ultrasounds, colposcopies, implanted birth control (including IUDs), and pregnancy termination. Anyone interested in being seen at the upcoming Women’s Health Clinic can make an appointment by calling Safe Harbor at 425-870-7384. The clinic will run from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Safe Harbor currently runs a podiatry (foot) clinic on the first Friday of the month and a chronic care clinic (diabetes, high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol, and thyroid issues) on the third Friday. For the second consecutive year, a pancake breakfast and silent auction will be held for Safe Harbor Free Clinic Sat, Feb. 25. Breakfast will be served 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in west Stanwood. Breakfast will consist of pancakes, sausage, eggs, juice, coffee or tea. The silent auction bidding begins at 7 a.m., ending at noon. Auction items include jewelry, furniture, gift certificates for dinner and services, kitchen items, etc. Cash, checks and credit cards will be accepted. Safe Harbor Free Clinic was founded in October of 2008 by community leaders and medical practitioners providing quality, free health care and referral service in a safe environment.

The 26th annual, Hot Plug’s Blackmouth Derby will be one day only this year: February 25th. Sign up now through Friday, February 24th @ 2pm at Elger Bay Grocery. Tons of CASH and other PRIZES! Entry fee is $50 per person and everyone in the boat must be entered. “How Craft Became Art” Lloyd Herman (Director Emeritus, Renwick Gallery, Smithsonian Art Museum) takes us on a whirlwind visual tour of “craft” as it became recognized as “art” in the past 100 years. In 20 years at the Smithsonian and 25 as independent curator, he has witnessed the flowering of surface design and wearable art movements, and the growth of such off-loom techniques as basketry and art quilting; discussed in context of the flowering American Studio Craft Movement. The Snow Geese are beginning to gather their flocks for their trip from Wrangel Island to the Skagit Valley which is our cue to begin to finalize details of the 2012 Festival to celebrate their arrival. Stanwood Masonic Centers bikes for books program. We are starting up again, the first Breakfast being February 26, 2012 from 8:30 am to 12 noon. We had to raise the price as our expenses have gone up. The new Price is $7.00 at the door. We have given out 12 bikes this past school year and want to do 24 this next school year. At the Stanwood Masonic Center 27205 102 Ave. NW in Stanwood, breakfast consists of eggs the way you like them cooked to order, hot cakes, French toast, bacon, sausage, and ham, really wonderful omelets, and possibly even juice, coffee, or milk, for $7.00. Come on by and help us give 24 bikes to the schools next year.

    Please add our information on square dance lessons starting soon in Stanwood!

    A new class will start on Feb 20th for square dancing! Lessons will be at The Floyd Norgaard Center in Stanwood.
    The evening will start at 6pm with a FREE Italian dinner, and lessons will start at 7 pm. The first lesson is FREE! We will accept newcomers on Feb 20 & 27 and March 5th. After that, lessons will be closed to new students for this session.
